Less than a year ago, my co-author Nancy Kushner, MSN, RN, and I celebrated the publication of our book, Patient-Centered Weight Management: The Six Factor Professional Program and Toolkit, published by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Three years in the making, this passion project was designed to empower clinicians with innovative, actionable strategies to support effective, individualized weight management.
Lately, we have been thrilled to receive some wonderful industry recognition that we’d love to share.
Award-Winning Digital Health Resource
First, Patient-Centered Weight Management was just named a Silver Digital Health Award Winner, Spring 2026.
Judged by a Health Information Resource Center (HIRC) panel of health technology and media experts, this award recognizes the world’s best digital health resources for healthcare professionals.
Because our book was built specifically to bridge the gap between clinical theory and real-world application, having our downloadable assessment and treatment digital toolkit recognized on this stage is incredibly meaningful.
Selected as a Doody’s Core Title
Additionally, we recently learned that the book has been selected as a Doody’s Core Title for 2026. This distinction is a trusted guide for medical, nursing, and allied health librarians to determine which books represent “essential knowledge needed by professionals or students… and [are] highly recommended for the collection.”
Years ago, I actually served as a Doody’s reviewer for nutrition textbooks, so I was especially eager to read the official expert assessment from Amy Hess Fischl, MS RDN LDN BC-ADM CDCES (University of Chicago Medical Center). In her generous review, she noted:
“Since overweight and obesity are becoming commonplace in the healthcare world, this program should be a requirement for anyone who works in a clinical setting… Every clinician needs to be their patients’ cheerleader and expert in guiding them.”
While written for clinicians, the book is packed with practical tools, questionnaires, and handouts that individuals on a weight management journey will find incredibly empowering and useful.
Grateful for Our Clinical Community
Ultimately, the true test of any resource is how it performs in the field. Hearing from colleagues who use the Six Factor framework daily has been the most rewarding part of this journey.
Clinicians like Marcy Kyle, RDN, have shared that they use this research daily, while Karlijn Burridge, PA-C, and Maria Karalis, RDN, have highlighted how seamlessly the 35 practical handouts and questionnaire translate from theory to office practice.
Weight management is a complex team sport. Whether you are an MD, PA, nurse practitioner, or RDN, thank you for being on the team, utilizing these tools, and transforming patient care.
